I bought a 2023 m4 Mac mini with 256 gig of storage and an external NVME drive that I use for the Home directly there's multiple users on the drive and I want to know the best way of erasing to Mac. now with that I know that the macOS on the m4 has"erase all content and settings"but sense the home drive is on the NVME drive do I just unplug the drive?or is there bits of info on the mini

Can't speak to whether "Erase All Content and Settings" will support external home directories but under normal circumstances it is all that would be required. I would think unplug the external after "Erase All Content and Settings" has done its job... assuming it works.

Erase the external nvme drive,
and then
Use "erase all content and settings" on the Mini itself, wiping it clean, too.

When in doubt...
... wipe them ALL out.
