Im trying to update to 4.3.1 but i get error 1013.

done some reading and says i need to kick out of recovery...

but ive been trying all morning using tiny umbrella its just not kicking out recovery for love or money!

What am i doing wrong?

Ive deleted the gs.apple from the host file to...

Any help pls?

Go to the TinyUmbrella website and download the Recovery Fix. Unzip it and use the 4.3 one. Gotta put the iPhone in DFU mode, should put you in the Emergency Screen. Open up iTunes to activate the cellular connection and then make sure you ARE getting a signal since I experienced a bug where I had to signal whatsoever.

Exit out of iTunes and TinyUmbrella (and the Recovery Fix if it's still running) and jailbreak with Redsn0w.

Have you ensured that the hosts file changes were saved and that you rebooted your computer?

I just ran into this problem (and I believe everyone who's ever used TinyUmbrella will). I believe that every time you open Tiny Umbrella, those gs.apple.com IP addresses will continue to be signed (I could be wrong, though.)

Make sure again that those IP addresses are gone, save (run as Administrator so it will save from Notepad), reboot, and run iTunes to restore one more time. Be sure to NOT run Tiny Umbrella during this process.

I hope this helps you out!

Thanks for the replies...

when i download the fix from the tiny umbrella site where do i unzip it to?

I don't think it really matters man, just make sure you know where it is. :p

you guys are geniuses

Thanks working fine now after using the fix recovery :D

thank u all :D

I'm not sure I did the fix from TinyUmbrella properly, it ran, but I still got the error. I had this a couple weeks ago trying to restore a friends phone on my computer, I followed these directions and it worked last time, I hope it workds this time:

1. Go to your “Applications” folder
2. Go to your “Utilities” folder
3. Launch “Terminal”
4. Type “sudo nano /etc/hosts” (without quotes) and hit return
5. Enter your password
6. Use the down arrow key to find the “gs.apple.com” entries. Once the cursor is in front, make sure you comment out the line(s) by entering “#” (no quotes) in front of the text
7. Save the file by pressing CONTROL+O on the keyboard
8. Exit the nano editor by pressing CONTROL+X on the keyboard
9. Restore your iDevice
10. Come back and thank Dave

Windows

1. Go to Start > Programs > Accessories > Notepad
2. Go to File > open
3. Navigate to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\
4. Select the “hosts” file and click “open”
5. Delete any line that has “sc.apple.com”
6. Go to File > Save
7. Restore your iPhone

jeebus, after getting a few different errors, especially the dreaded 1604, and being stuck in the recovery loop, i used the host file solution (my 3rd time trying) and i finally got it to restore and install 4.31, but it remained in recovery mode with the error 1013.

but i got the zlib1.dll file for tiny umbrella's fixrecovery 4.31 (which was missing for windows) used it and finally, my phone's back.

so many hours...holy. based on what i've seen on the net, i'm lucky it only took a few hours

damn, i haven't even attempted to jb yet...

Same here. It took me two hours to update and fix. When I got the 1013 error I did the method posted above:

Windows

1. Go to Start > Programs > Accessories > Notepad
2. Go to File > open
3. Navigate to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\
4. Select the “hosts” file and click “open”

6. Go to File > Save
7. Restore your iPhone
