I have one-year-old iMac (running 10.5.7), with serveral external drives attached via USB.
Arbitrarily, it seems, my iMac won't let me move or delete files on those drives. I get:
"... unexpected error occurred error 1407"
I checked permission in Info for the troublesome files, and it says "read and write."
I'm not networked most of the time (though I do have problems with permissions when I try to transfer files via my network, which is, I think, a different problem).
I'm running completely stand-alone, single user, no passwords, and no need to have anything but full permissions on everything. It's just me.
I recently went to Disc Utility and had it fix permissions, which is the only viable option it gives me. This problem predates that.
Curiously a search on "error 1407" here and in the Apple Support Forums comes up empty.
Any ideas what the problem is, or what I should try next?
Thanks,
Steve
