I've just installed a music-writing app (Finale NotePad 2001) on my brother's old Mac. But when I try to run it, I get the message:
What does this error mean? Not enough memory? Hard drive's full? I need to stand up and rotate 3 times before it will work? And why can't these errors be descriptive?
Update: I just rebooted and rebuilt the desktop (because the app had a generic icon). The icon is the correct one now but it still gives me an error -192. But what's really intriguing is that the system-wide menu bar now looks like OS 8 (I'm running 7.6.1). I noticed that the Finale installer copied over a file called "Appearance" which must have something to do with it. So I tried opening the Appearance control panel, and got another error -192. What's going on here?
Update 2: I did a Get Info on the Appearance control panel, and it says that it's from Mac OS 8.5! I also found that the Appearance Extension has been updated, it's from Appearance SDK 1.0.3.
The application program "Finale NotePad" could not be opened, because an error of type -192 occurred.
