So I can't seem to restore this iPhone 3g. I get an error 23 and it just sits on a white screen (of death). This happened as a result of the battery dying and being off for 12 hours or so. I have tried restoring from backup, from recovery mode, from dfu mode, fresh restore, none work. I can't get anywhere. Any thoughts...

I had an iPhone given to me with this exact same problem. I ended up having to replace the LCD. I did a lot of searching and most agree that if the resests and restoring dont work its probably the LCD. Once i replaced the LCD it worked.

Error 23 means a hardware failure. Basically the WiFi, bluetooth, 3G and edge radios have failed and the only fix is to bring it to Apple if it is under warranty. My 3GS had this error back in August and Apple replaced it for me.

Thanks guys, its not under warrenty anymore so I guess I'll see what they say (cost wise) and I'll go from there.

Anyone have any idea of cost if outside of warranty? A range? Thanks

You can get an LCD online for $30-$50 range. Go online and watch a few videos on how to take the phone apart. So for 30-50 dollars and 30 minutes of labor your phone should work. :)

A new LCD screen isn't going to make an iPhone with an error 23 (hardware failure) start working again.

update

Apple ended up just replacing the phone for free, no question about purchase date. Sweetness :)
