Hi everyone. Second help thread here, I must apologise!
I have a 2.1ghz Macbook, the old plastic one running Snow Leopard with the latest updates.
I keep on getting Error -36, read/write error when copying files, or groups of smaller files, bigger than about 100mb to another volume or drive. It could be a single 300mb file or a load of MP3s totalling 300mb - same thing every time. Note that if I retry the copy, it will freeze and then kick up the same error at exactly the same point every time. This point will vary from file to file, but the error is easily reproducible.
This happens with any number of different known-good files when copying from the internal drive to NTFS, FAT32 and HFS drives, and across the network to samba shares.
I've also tried this somewhat crude workaround:

I've run the Apple Hardware Test, repaired the disk, repaired partitions and booted in Recovery Mode. Any help would be very much appreciated as it's a massive pain.
Edit: just remembered - it doesn't happen with Firewire drives. I even took a drive out a USB enclosure it was kicking up the error with and put it in a Firewire one. Everything worked fine. I'm stumped!
