I cannot write to, neither format my 2nd hdd, placed in an obtibay. Every time I try to write to it i get error code -50 and when i try to re-format the drive I get a fault message telling me that the disk cannot be unmounted. Everything works fine when I take out the hard drive and connect it via USB. It worked fine up until just a couple of months ago when I got some indications that there was some problems with the disk. I checked for errors in disk utility but found nothing. However, I removed the disk and kept in a usb-enclosure and used the files from there and it continued to work perfectly fine!
But now, when I want to reinstall the disk into my obtibay I am just receiving the above errors. The drive is identified by the OS and I can read the files on it, but not write to the disk. Neither can i format it or erase everything on it. I even tried to boot into recovery mode and use disk utility from there but with the same result saying that the disk cannot be unmounted.
But when I remove the disk and put it back in the enclosure, everything works just fine. I have tried to erase it with disk utility and then put it back in again with the exact same result...
I have made sure that I have all the permissions to read & write. The disk has always been formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journal). The disk is the original one that followed with my macbook pro, an Hitachi 250gb, 7200rpm. The computer is an MacBook pro 5.1, late 2008, running OS X 10.9.1. In the original HD-bay a SSD is placed and it has always been located in that place since I first removed my superdrive. And, it worked fine when I first installed everything.. then something happened
Any idea what to do?
