I am trying to copy files from a thunderbolt 4TB LaCie to a firewire 1TB LaCie. It gives me an pop up saying that a certain file is in use and then if i try to replace it and start over it pops up an error code 50. What can I do? I am working on a 2011 13inc MBP

Hi,

Generally this is a result of attempting to copy a system folder or a read-only file - like a current Time Machine backup job for example. You can try fixing permissions on the disk from Disk Utility. I would also dismount the disks and remount them to ensure the OS isn't attempting to use the drive or the files.
