Error doing first Time machine BU on band new MB and HDD

So on my new 2.0 allu MB I connected up my new buffalo 500GB ext USB HDD (FAT32) to set up TM.

It formatted it into OSX and then keeps saying error when back up.

I have used disk utitlity to partition using GUID and strat again, but it keeps failing on me.

Any suggestions?

In order for TM to work on that drive or the partition that you use on the drive, it needs to be formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). The first backup takes a long time. -GDF

Yep, have done than with disk utitilty using erase as extened (jornaled_ and then doing 2 partitions, then reverting back to 1 as recommended on Gizmodo sometime ago.

Still to no avail.

Will call apple care tonight, but just wondered if anyone else has had this prob?
