I keep getting an error message on start up. That reads "your Mac shut down because of problems with programs running... " I get this wether I've closed and quit every single program running and done a restart or shut down. I've done back to back restarts never opening any programs and I get the message

Any idea what program may be hidden and running to create this error message? I review in Activity Monitor nothing stands outs

2018 MacBook Air os 13.4

Any insights are very welcome
thanks

Is that the wording of the message that you see? Or is it slightly different? Post that exact message...

I do agree about Onyx. It may fix things by running the tasks under the Maintenance tab. Be patient when running those tasks. It might take more than 10 minutes to run all tasks. Your Mac will restart when finished.

Shut down your MBAir:
Before you shut down - Quit any open apps.
Then, click Force Quit... under the Apple menu.
Force quit anything other than Finder in that Force Quit window. (Anything other than Finder might help you decide what is happening...)
If there is nothing other than Finder, Force Quit the Finder, too. Everything on the screen, any icons or folders, should disappear, then come back in a few moments as the Finder restarts itself. Open the same Force Quit window again, just to make sure that Finder remains alone. Close that Force Quit window.
Now, shut down your MBAir.
Wait for it to completely shut off. I like to have a thumb drive, or other external USB device that has a power light, so I can easily tell when the power has shut off.
After power off... Restart. The Onyx tip may help clear that issue, if it continues.
Or, it could be fixed by updating your Ventura system to the current 13.5

I keep getting an error message on start up.

If you have closed all applications then it may be an extension that is causing the problem. Ways to diagnose:

1. Boot up in Safe mode to see if the issue continues there

2. Run a program like Etrecheck to find all loaded daemons/extensions. Disable them all. If the problem disappears add them back until you find the one which causes the error.

Apologize about the late response got busy on other things. I truly appreciate all the help you guys provided. Thank you!

I went the Onyx route and that did the trick. One thing I love about Apple is their App Store really think it would be in their interest to host free programs like Onyx so us unsure users would be confident when downloading

Anyhow again thank you for the help
