Error when trying to update software

I'm getting an installation error when trying to update to the newest version on my 2010 MBP. I've tried updating from the 'software update' as well as downloading the combo pack from apple's website. I'm able to download from both places, but once it starts to install, that's when the installation error comes up. I've tried clearing the caches as well as the updates folder in the library, but nothing is working. Any suggestions? TIA.
