Error when updating osx - the digital signature for this package is incorrect" help!

my osx version is 10.5.8 - running an intel 2.1ghz core 2 duo and 1gig of ram

2 updates that failed are:

java for mac osx 10.5 - update 5 - v1.0
security update 2009-005 - v1.0

anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried a permission repair?

nope - ill try it but i fail to see why that would effect the update. it downloaded the updates there and then from the internet and before the update installer started for it to mount the files to perform the update the error popped up

A permissions issue could prevent the proper signature from being written to disk, causing the hash check to fail. It's just a guess, but yes it's a possibility.
