Errors when importing photos from windows to iphoto

Just bought my first imac. trying to transfer our 5000+ photos from my windows XP to iphoto and keep running into an error "unreadable files". 159 photos (JPG) will not import due to invalid file type or invalid data.

I can open, edit and save the pic on my PC but they won't import. Any ideas or help? Thanks

Resave the troublesome files in a different format under Windows and see if it helps.
