When I switched my ext 1Tb drive from Firewire 400 to eSata, besides the big boost in data transfer speed, 2 annoying issues arose:

a) If I power up the ext drive more than 10 minutes after booting up, the two drive partitions don't appear on the desktop.

b) Whereas ejecting the ext drive icons prompted me to eject both partitions, on the eSata connection I am forced to eject them individually.

To remedy these situations I used Disk Utility to UnMount/Mount both partitions. I also ran Disc Warrior on the drive. Neither attempt helped.
