I'm wondering, what happens when I install an eSata controller card in a MacPro ?

I intend to add a couple of external HDDs via eSata ports to have 6 Sata drives available in my MP, and I'm a bit hesitant to attach them directly to the motherboard, seems like that's not for the faint of heart.

- Will I need to somehow attach the card to an internal Sata port, or do I just plug it into the PCIe slot and it will magically be recognized ?

- Can I use one of the 'slower' PCIe slots without compromizing performance ?

- Any hints on what to look for when buying a Sata controller card ?

Thanks in advance !
