I have a G5 (June 2004) 2.0 DC I recently purchased to use a file server and backup device. I already had a mediasonic probox hf2-su252 I was using on my 2011 mini via usb (in jbod mode). I picked up the syba sd-pcxsa2-2e2r sata controller card, so I could run the probox in esata mode. I installed the card in the G5 and it recognized it right away. I then downloaded the SIL3124 drivers from the Syba website, and sytem profiler showed it as connected and the drivers installed. I connected and powered up the probox, and to my delight, my drives started popping up in disk utility. Then, to my dismay, they disconnected. It never got to all 4 drives. Now when I power up the probox in esata mode, the drive access light continually blinks as if it it recognizing, but it never does. I can switch to USB mode and all the drives are there and the data is safe. I can't get it to recognize the drives in esata mode at all anymore. I figure this may be some sort of port multiplier problem, but the Syba card is supposed to support port multiplying.

Anyone know of another driver I should be using or have this card with a port multiplying external storage box? Or does anyone have this box successfully connected to a G5, and if so, what esata controller card are you using? I did try to save some money by buying the Syba card, but I am not against returning it for a more expensive card if I could verify that the combo was functioning correctly.
