I received an email from ESET with product info and there is a program for Mac call Cybersecurity. I know they have a good antivirus for a pc but was unaware of this new program. Has anyone tried it? If so, how do you like it or is just a waste of money.

Below is a link to ESET's web site:

Happy New Year!

If you really want to run AV software on your Mac for peace of mind, then use one of the free options available. You can find feedback about various AV softwares for Mac elsewhere in this forum.

I like it - I had used the beta and got a discount when it came out. I've found that ESET seems to use far less resources on my Mac than the free versions of AV that I tried before. I know there are several arguments why antivirus is unnecessary for Mac OSX; other than for my own piece of mind I needed it to be able to get onto the network at school. Since my computer performance doesn't seem to be affected by ESET, I've been satisfied with it.

I have been running it since beta as well and have been pleased with it. It provides an unobtrusive safety net for my macbook pro.

It gets repeated ad nauseum that there are no OSX viruses in the wild. That is great, however, there are more threats to your computer than just viruses.

A nice design to OSX is its use of password protected permissions. This means that the malware targeted at your mac has to be allowed by the user before it can be installed. In an ideal world, that would be all the protection you need. Unfortunately, mistakes happen, so having a security suite installed is a sound investment.

Something that does not get mentioned much is how Macs can act as carriers of Windows based malware. One of my favorite features of ESET Cybersecurity is its ability to eliminate the malware before it is passed on to people who use Windows. Being a good netizen is always a plus in my mind.
