I will be heading to Japan in early October. I have Verizon and the highest plan which is supposed to have unlimited text, talk and data. Should I should look an season card for Tokyo get their pocket wifi or should I be fine with my current sim/plan?

I use "Ubigi" whenever I travel to Japan. You can download the app. from the App. store and purchase the eSim and pre-paid plan in the app..

I've not had any issues with it traveling all over Japan from Sapporo to Okinawa.

Airalo …. $26 for 20gb valid for 30 days. When I used them in Japan worked with no issues.

I personally used only Airalo recently, but it wasn't the best one for Japan. I'd choose something different, at least from this website it seems like there are many different options out there, and some are even cheaper. Maybe it will help someone out: https://esimgeek.com/

If you’re already on Verizon’s top plan, the only real issue is roaming speed in Tokyo, it’s usually slower than people expect. Pocket wifi is fine but carrying an extra brick gets annoying fast.

Depending on how long you'll be there, Verizon offers a Travel Pass - $10/day when you use your phone. My daughter uses it when she travels and it's super convenient. Turn is on using the Verizon Wireless website.

I used nomsd esim. They had the best prices when i did a comparison.

My current provider visible, has free global pass for each month your a member. I used this in taiwan this year so all my data was covered for free, and i plan to use any banked months of global sim plus nomad for japan again in 2026.

Esim are great. Just turn turn on the esim in the setting the minute you land and you’re good!

Usually eSIM providers like nomad or Arello are much more affordable for example 10 gig for $30 days for 2 weeks. The plans vary per country.

Unless the person traveling needs to stay connected with their home phone number for calls due to business or their phone isn’t unlocked.
