When I use a physical SIM card, I set a SIM PIN so that the SIM can't just be used in another phone for account impersonation, etc. But these days I use an eSIM, and it still provides the option to set up a passcode: I can't imagine why that might be necessary as long as I have a passcode set on the iPhone. I like security, so I'm wondering what I'm missing here. Does anybody know of a reason to set up an eSIM passcode as well as an iPhone passcode?

It offers a small increase in security under certain contitions. After α turn on - reboot, even if someone knows the passcode, they can't make or receive calls and sms if they don't know the sim-pin...
