Essential Applications for Mac Newbs

Hey all,

I'll be getting my first mac (mbp 15 late 2011) soon and was wondering what some of the essential programs are that I should get. I am completely new to mac, so I don't even know the basic programs.

This doesn't have to be just applications like a word processor, we can have some fun here too. What applications can you not live without? What are your favorites? What are some cool fun ones?
