Essential Software (freeware, preferably)

Well, anyways, I'm waiting for Christmas (when I get my Macbook Pro), so I just thought I'd ask a few questions.

What are some essential programs that I should get for my Mac, besides the ones that come standard on it. Open Office is a must, what else?

This question gets asked so often that we've set up some stickies at the top of this forum... and also in the Mac Guides.
