Ethernet and wifi stopped working suddenly on my iMac (Mid 2010) few days ago. I tried rebooting, resetting PRAM and finally installing a clean copy of Yosemite with no luck. But windows (bootcamp) and Linux (Live CD) works without any issues. I was using OS X El Capitan public beta 1. I haven't done any changes to the network.

Here is the symptoms:

  • Ethernet not working, cable not connected error (red dot on network panel), but the cable is working (verified with a laptop)
  • OSX shows the list of available wifi networks, but cannot connect to any of them, 'Connection failed' when entered the password, cannot connect to password less networks either.
  • Cannot connect to wifi on OSX boot screen. List of networks are shown in the drop down, but cannot connect.
  • Cannot connect to wifi on OSX Yosemite installation wizard. (same as above)
  • No issues on windows 8 (Boot camp)
  • No issues on Linux (live CD)

I'm running out of ideas. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.
