Ethernet cable not detected

My network preferences says that ethernet cable isnt connected..there is no problem with the cable because it is working fine on my linux desktop..Also there is no problem with the apple NIC because i tried a different cable and it worked(my old internet connection).

Any pointers??

Have you nailed the speed on the NIC? If so, remove that.
