Ok guys,
I need your help! I have an iMac probably about two years old. I am having major internet issues. Before we get started let me clarify that this is not due to the provider. My ethernet connection works great on other computers and etc....
Here is what's going on. My iMac suddenly looses the ip address all day long!! I have to fix by rebooting my modem. Here is what I have discovered. Every time this happens the pc light on the modem suddenly quits blinking. I can trigger this to happen every time by simply uploading a file that will take more than 10 seconds to upload. It is like my iMac suddenly forgets that it was in the middle of doing something. LOL
Next,
When this happens if I wait a couple of seconds and renew my DHCP I usually will get the all sucky 169 IP address. However, once I reboot the modem it will give me a 192 and then eventually the correct IP address. I was originally told by Charter, my internet provider, that it may be due to the modem that I have not supporting my speed. Well they just sent me the best modem they have called a 3.0. Now get this, my imac won't even recognize that it is plugged in and will not give me any IP address. However, it will work on other computers. I just had to put the other modem back on since my Imac wont recognize it.
How I'm set up,
Very simple. Cable modem directly to computer. Absolutely nothing in-between. Basically if I am doing alot of something, boom there went my internet. Why is my Mac doing this and what options do I have on repairing this? I hope to do this myself. I read last night somewhere that you can move your systemconfigurationfolder to the trash and reboot and supposably it will reinstall this folder with the original network settings. However, it did not and I had to put the original folder back.
Please help!
