Ethernet port not working

Hi,

I dropped my MacBook and the ethernet connection is not working anymore.
It tells me it can't find the server, even though the cable is connected and works on other computers.

Can a USB to LAN adapter be a quick fix? How can I find out if it's only the connection or the motherboard damaged as well?
