I have a computer that i am doing the initial backup to time machine via a time capsule. So to make it go quicker I plugged it into time capsule with an ethernet cable. However, with the cable plugged in it still seems to be transferring with the speeds of the airport.. when i turn the airport off then it picks up speed and goes much faster... my question is do i always have to turn off the airport when i plug in my ethernet in order to get ethernet speeds? thanks!

If you want to make sure it uses the cable, you will need to turn off the airport.

I'm pretty sure that's the only way to do it. It's just a couple clicks so it's not that complicated, just a little annoying. From my quick perusal, there doesn't appear to be any settings to shut off or give priority to ethernet.
