That's just not right - like its a security issue, right....

All this does it make MS look bad.

Hope things go well for him...

He should sue MS
They can´t fire him if he takes such a picture, can they??
I guess the G5s are for 1. R&D or 2. MBU or 3. Bill Gates, since he is a fan ;)

If you look in the background, the pallet o' G5's has toppled over. If you ask me, it looks like a bear went in there and tore the shrink wrap off. Shame Shame.

i think this little employee of theirs has nothing against the empire of Microsoft. they get what they want, and if they want him fired he wont be able to compete with that. im sure there is something in the NDA saying he cant do what he did, even if it was harmless.

I think that they can fire him whenever they want without any explanation unless he is covered by an employment contract or collective bargaining agreement of some sort. I don't know any specifics about WA state law, but in general, most people can be fired for no reason at all.

While we come to expect that our employers will exercise sound business judgement regarding these matters, there's usually no law that says, "No replacing your well trained work force with pretty little idiots."

As far as people who create a PR issue? Well, that's even easier to justify. As Mr. Anderson said, it makes MS look bad. Sayonara.

I'm pretty sure MS has macs all over the place. They do have software that run on macs. I'm pretty sure apple has dells or other types of PCs around for software development. It's not that big of a deal. **unless you the guy that got fired**

he was a temp. as anyone that's ever temped knows, you can expect to be fired for sneezing on the job, so i'm not surprised by this at all. it does suck tho, no chance of suing (temps don't have that right, generally)...hopefully he can find a job somewhere more mac friendly soon :)

let's see:

Msoft--software company
Apple--hardware + software company

Msoft--makes software for Apple

So why is it so special that Msoft is getting a shipment of new Macs???

That is a very intersting picture. If they are using the G5's to improve software compatability then its OK. The IT people get to see what they are missing. :p

This really does scare me. How is that a breach of security. I mean I am not going to create a conspiracy plot saying microsoft is jealous of the G5 and didn't want people knowing this. If they didn't want people to know they were getting G5's they wouldn't of fired him. I'm just confused in how this is a security breech.

Where does it say he got laid off?

the guy doesn't even work for MS, he just works in a building attached to MS

According to CNN

Michael Hanscom, a temp worker at Microsoft's in-house print shop, is fired after posting to his blog a photo that showed workers at the facility taking delivery of several Apple G5 computers. His supervisor insists that Hanscom was fired not for showing the company relying on the product of its chief rival, but for revealing the location of one of its shipping and receiving departments.

There seems to be about 30 G5's from what I can count.

Whoops, I didn't realize how old this thread was until you said something. It makes me wonder how I came across it in the first place....

Of course, we now can put forth another theory, based upon the recent Xbox2 announcement:

Internally, Microsoft has begun developing game prototypes, and it is using G5 systems to do so.

Perhaps these are the systems in question, and they did not want to reveal their actual purpose at that time.
