Even worth it ordering now? (AT&T)

I was quoted the same. Between 21-28 business days. I'm in no rush since I'm still using my 4S, so I went ahead and ordered one anyway.
 
I ordered mine on the 18th and it wasn't supposed to ship until Oct 11, release day I went into AT&T and voila they had quite a few in stock so I cancelled the pre order and snagged a White 16gb :D
 
It's not worth it to order online/over phone with AT&T. There are many people in the AT&T thread who are trying to cancel their orders so they can try their luck with physical stores, which I believe to be more reliable and quicker.

Honestly, if it were me, I'd just be trying to get one from the Apple store (They supposedly get a shipment in every day). Surely by 28 days if you are vigilant enough you can get one before it would be shipped to you.

I've done this before with several devices I waiting too long to get. If you have a local Apple store, they are your best bet.
 
Try going into an Apple store. Many of them actually have some phones in stock.
 
If you have an Apple store close to you try there. There is another thread that Apple is going to start allowing reservations in the US starting tonight at 10pm. You could try that.
