My theory is that because the other side is all caps (PC), the short form of Macintosh must also be capitalized.

What I hate is when Apple is substituted for Mac.... iApple <cringe> ... or I have an Apple. Unless, of course, if it is an Apple (i.e. Classic, //, //gs, etc.), but who talks about them anymore?

Although the capitalization isnt that big of a deal it is annoying. It is much worse when people use mac instead of Apple however.

"Oh, you have the mac mp3 player???"

It's because we Mac users get so het up when PC users write "MAC". They know it's a hair trigger issue so do it to get a reaction.

:D

I think people have just gotten so stupid they don't understand the difference between an acronym and an abbreviation. Or even more likely, they just don't care about proper capitalization (or are too lazy).

What really gets me is when people type things like "I-mac" or "I Tunes"... I mean really... ;)

MAC stands for media access control it has nothing to do specifically with macs or pcs, but if you've messed with routers you'll see how it can be annoying.

You should be happy that people are making room for Mac discussions.

I could really care less about the spelling and grammar on internet posts.

MAC can also mean Message Authentication Code, an identifier used in Transport Layer Security protocols :)

Starts to get confusing doesn't it?
