My MacBook Pro was running really slow. So I went into Activity Monitor, and I accidentally must have quit something that was running under the CPU tab. And then everything that was on my desktop, including my HD disappeared. Is there any way to get it back?

It sounds like Finder was acting up. Just reboot the computer and you should be good.

As above - if finder is acting up, that would cause it.

If you can get to terminal - you could restart the finder /dock.

But a reboot is easiest.
