Searched google and the forums to no avail, maybe I'm getting old. Anyhow:

Under "About this Mac"

Storage Tab
Entire drive usage is marked as "other"
Zero KB on Audio, Movies, Photos, and Apps
Bootcamp I can understand, but OSX, anyone have a clue how it determines this or how to update?

i woulda thought it'd be to do with what the file extensions are, i.e if it's .mp3 it'll tag it as music etc.

I thought of that and possibly file location, but if either were true, I'd have more than 0kb apps installed at least.

One reason why this can happen is if you have have prevented Spotlight from indexing the drive.

I think I did do that...I'll reengage it and see if it changes things.

Bingo, re-enabling indexing created the dataset required to populate the details of the storage space.
