I was using terminal to edit the icons of my applications, and since then i have restarted my laptop, and everything on my desktop is gone. I still have my downloads, my applications, even my internet history. But the folders on my desktop with all my school work has dissapeared.

When i open word it shows me all the documents i have created, but they 'cant be found' when i go to open them. Anyone know what i have to do to recover my files?

You may have an issue with permissions reading the ~/Desktop folder. If there's a little red circle on it in finder you know that's why.

A proper sudo command will fix that most likely.

Where would this red circle be exactly?
