I expected HomePod to be a niche product for Apple initially: limited feature-set, played-down launch, and seemingly limited advertising.
So I was shocked to see what one retailer in the UK - John Lewis - already has 3144 white HomePods in stock for Friday. They've not received any stock of space grey yet.
By comparison, for an iPhone launch they normally have under 1000 of each colour.
And by further comparison, they presently have 850 white Sonos Ones and 250 black Sonos Ones in stock. And about 2700 AirPods - which are surely way more popular.
In all likelihood, they will receive further stock before launch - certainly of space grey but probably of white too.
It's a small data point but that seems like a massive number to me. It will be interesting to see the rate at which they sell.
