Exact movie syncing criteria

What exactly is the criteria for syncing a movie from itunes to the iPad. Most of mine were rejected and most were video podcasts. Not to mention 90% of my movies are h.264. I wish it would just tell you what isn't compatible rather than going through trial and error.

If you have 3g, download the Air Video app and the server app in there web site.
Select the folder movies on the server.
Click on Air Video app no matter what format there on it will play and you dont have to worry about space the limit is your computer, you can stream everywhere in the world.
