I have a spring 2008 iMac 2.66 running OSX 10.8. Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, upon opening any MS Office 2011 product, I receive a EXC_BAD_ACCESS error. Upon research, I've tried deleting the com.microsoft.excel.plist and Word, etc. files to no avail. I also removed all Microsoft referenced files from the Preferences folder which did allow me to set up the AutoUpdate settings, but then returned to the same problem.
Several references I found said to try it under a new User, so I did that and the suite runs fine. However, none of those references say what to do if hats the case. I also noticed that if I choose to open a .xlsx and navigate to my original user documents folder, I get the same error even under the new user. If I email that same file to myself and then open the attachment as the new user the file works fine. It seems like something is wrong with my original user library.
I don't know that Mountain Lion caused it either because I received similar errors within the last month when accessing another application. I re-installed that one and it worked ok, but had to do that again another time. I also received an error within he last month exporting a Numbers document to Excel. I could work wih the file in Excel, but it would shut down upon using the Save function. I do not know for sure if those errors were also the EXC_BAD_ACCESS error, but I thought that information may be helpful. I understand I could just use the new User account, but I have years of setup already on my old one.
