I have several excel files stored on my system. I used these files from the same computer daily. Yesterday, when i tried to open several files in Excel 2007 then i found following error on my co,puter screen: "Excel connot open file (filename) xlsx because the file format or file extension is not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file" How fix it?

I might be mistaken, but the excel spreadsheets you have are not backwards compatible with Office 2007. You need to run at least 2010 to open them.

As a temporary work around, you could try installing Open Office.

Good luck!

I think so. You should use Office 2010

The XML-based Office formats (.xlsx, .docx, etc) were introduced with Office 2007 (Win) and Office 2011 (Mac) so that is not the issue.

It's not clear from your quote of the error message, but do your files actually end in ".xlsx"?
