Excel hyperlink problem - PC to Mac

I revise Excel reports from numerous people that contain hyperlinks to pdf files. When the report comes as .xls, the hyperlinks are fine. However, when it's .xlsx, they don't work. One character has been changed to %5C, and it won't open in my mac version of Excel. However, they will open on a PC.

I'm running Excel for Mac 2011, on OS X Mavericks, 10.9.2.
