Has anyone experienced this?

We have excel files on a SMB mounted network location that I used to modify all the time. But since upgrading to 10.6, I am unable to save the file either with the same name or different name. In fact I cannot save any file at all in the network location.

  • I can still copy/move the file, if I first save it locally.
I can save files from iWork (well Word can save, but only as 'read only'), in the same location.
This affects both Excel 2004 and 2008.
To complicate it further, I can save files to a different SMB location, without any issue!
You might say it is some access permissions issue, but why then it won't affect Pages or Numbers too?

Strange as it may sound, my network people messed around with something and suddenly fixed it from the back end. Still don't get it, why Pages or Numbers were not affected and only Excel seemed to suffer.

Well now everything seems to work for no apparent reason :D

Would you happen to have any idea what was changed? I'm running into the same issue in a higher ed setting and I might be able to persuade networking to put in a fix if I could tell them what it was.
