When I try to put a parentheses around a number all I get is a negative number. Example: (1) gives me a -1. Anyone have an idea what's wrong?
Thanks,
Al

Nothing's wrong. This is standard Excel notation for negative numbers.

You have two options:

1. Put an apostrophe, eg., '(1), in front. Problem here is that the cell contents will become text.
2. Go to Format/Format Cells/Number and select the (1234) format with black text option.
