Excel swipe issue

I'm hoping someone can help,

I regularly work with a few excel spreadsheets open, I copy in one spreadsheet then swipe either left or right to paste into another. Every time I do this it swipes itself back to the original spreadsheet. On the second attempt it works fine. Does this every time.

I've tried some changes in mission control but no difference, I've had this problem for a while now, none of the software updates have made a difference.
