Exchanging iPad by phone?

I have the "new" iPad, and it's being replaced (by way of ac+) because I dropped it and the screen shattered. Well is there a possible way for me to tell them if I could exchange my (16gb) and upgrade to a 32gb one?
Anyone done this before?
And obviously I would pay the end difference.
