iPad mini Exchanging iPad mini for larger size

Has anyone returned there iPad before and exchanged it for a larger GiG version.
How did that work will they just let me pay the price difference with cash or credit card or will i have to do a full refund then repurchase it.
Also what is apples return policy like how many days do they give you.

Normally their return policy is 14 days, but purchases from 11/1 and later fall under the holiday return window, which is until Jan 7 this year.

When you bring it back, they'll probably do a refund and then charge you for the new one on one transaction so you'll only end up paying the difference.

Yes, I exchanged a 32GB Air for a 64GB Air (no problems)
