Hi,

Does anyone have any experience with exchanging phones via the iPhone Upgrade Program? I am coming from the iPhone 11 Pro Max and got the iPhone 12 Pro, and the battery life is much too short for me. I wanted to exchange it for the iPhone 12 Pro Max. We have no Apple stores open around me, so I am not sure how that works. If I just return my iPhone 11 Pro Max and iPhone 12 Pro, will they just cancel my loan? Then I could just purchase the iPhone 12 Pro Max again using the iPhone Upgrade Program again on a separate account.

Sorry if this has been answered. I searched and didn't see anything. Normally I'd just go to the Apple Store to do this, but that isn't an option right now.

Thanks!

I did this before you basically have to open a new iPhone upgrade program and then activate the new one on your phone number and you can return the old one anytime within the 14 days after you initiate a return and it will cancel your old iPhone upgrade program

They wont be able to activate the new for one until around 3 weeks when the max comes out. It will be past the 14 days then. If you are able to cancel your 12 pro upgrade programme I think you have to be careful to because you will have to have another credit check when you get the max. Doesn’t look good on your credit record so many close together.

So I would just purchase a "new" iPhone 12 Pro Max on the upgrade program, and then when I receive it I can activate it on my current phone number?

Also, it sounds like I wouldn't want to initiate a return until for another week or so that way I can get the Pro Max before I return my other two phones.

Thanks!

You only have 14 days to return. You will need to do it before you order your max. I’m confused, did you purchase the iphone 11 max too? Not sure why you want to return the 11 max?

The 11 Pro Max is my current phone on the Upgrade Program, which I have to return in order to get the next phone. I have only paid 13 or 14 months on it. So usually you just return it when you get your new phone.

Optimally, I'd like to just return my iPhone 12 Pro and have my eligibility back for pre-ordering the iPhone 12 Pro Max when it becomes available.

I might have to take my chances and try to call Apple tomorrow to see if I can speak with someone who knows what they are talking about, since I can't go in to the store. It might be more confusing than I originally though.

If you haven’t already returned your 11 Pro Max then all you need to do is return the 12 Pro I think and then you can wait for the 12 Pro Max. But it’s better to talk to Apple directly as you said. Get the solution from them directly.

I just did this last night. My wife ordered the iPhone 12 Pro Gold, and now wants the Pacific Blue (even though she never even opened the Gold box to look at it!!).

Chatted with Apple online. They initiated a return of the Gold 12, and this reset the eligibility of her current iPhone 11 Pro for an upgrade (it did take about 15 minutes to register). Then I was able to order the iPhone 12 Pacific Blue online using gate Apple Upgrade Program.

So you should be able to do the same, keep you current phone until the Max is available, and then pre-order it.

Perfect, thank you very much!!

I just enrolled for the iPhone Upgrade Program but I’m returning my 12 Pro and waiting for the 12 Pro Max.

Hoping it’s an easy process re-enrolling when I try and pre order the 12 Pro Max on 11/6.

Inside of 30 days, it's still on the original credit pull. And for most that have been approved, even if they do a second after 30 days, it's just a soft pull. I haven't had a hard pull since my very first year on the program, and I've exchanged a couple of phones since then, so I've had like 5 or 6 different Citizen's loans. It hasn't affected my credit.

Did they have to receive the return to reset her eligibility, or was all that was needed was to initiate the return? I’m thinking about returning my 12 Pro and trying to preorder the 12 Pro Max, but I want to make sure that there’s no overlap time with the return/making me eligible again.
