Hey guys.

I have an iMac in my dorm, and I bring a laptop with me to my classes and labs. I work with quite a few large files on my iMac, and sometimes I need access to them on my Macbook.

If I buy a NAS... I can hook it up to my iMac, and save files to it. And then load those files up, via internet, on my Macbook, right?

You just need a regular USB hard drive shared out with a file server. You are mistaken with what a NAS is. Be careful to follow the rules of the network in your dorm. Hooking up a NAS will likely anger the IT person that manages your network.

A NAS won't help you share files any more than setting up file sharing on your iMac will. NAS is not the key to accessing files from your computer over the internet, router configuration is and in a dorm that is not an option.

You would probably be best helped by either using something like LogMeIn to access your iMac remotely or finding online space to store files.
