I've been trying out both formats on a 500 Gb external disk using USB 2.0 playing 720p and 1080p .mkv movies. Nevertheless I haven't done any benchmarks, I've noted that the playback is extremely faster and smoother using exFAT, even when mirroring the video on an external Full HD display.
Considering HFS+ is the native OSX file system, wouldn't It be more logical that the performance was better using that file system format instead of using a Windows file system?
Just trying to clear my head after getting a 2 TB external disk.
