existing backup to new iphone 3gs possible?

Quick Question

I backed up my iphone on itunes about a month ago before I blew my old 2g phone up. (never try to lever the battery out with a screwdriver..)

I'm getting a new phone 3gs on Friday, can I restore my contacts and stuff onto this new iphone?

If I restore to backup (if possible) will it go back to 2.2 software?

How did 2g to 3g people do this?

restoring from a 2G backup worked yesterday on my 3G it should work.. Just plug it into you computer and iTunes should ask if you'd like to restore from a backup. Happy days
