I've just got a 750GB external to expand my 95% full 750GB iMac onto, and I'm not sure what I should move from my main Mac. I obviously won't be moving system files there, or applications. I'll probably move all my music over and point iTunes to the right place, and my 2005-2008 folders of photos from the Pictures folder. Not sure about moving all of Documents over because they aren't really sorted by year and I'm loathe to move a whole Folder from the User folder over to the external.

Is there a 'good practice' guide for this sort of thing with OSX anywhere on the web?

Cheers.

move your music onto it, documents etc. but make sure that you backup your documents but of course.

any movies or whatever also. dont worry about moving ur user profile, hardly worth it.
