I have an SE2 as a backup phone for biking and it works with my MagSafe duo no issues. Works just like any other qi charger. You just won’t get a magnetic attachment. I use it through a case as well albeit not a leather case.
You should have no issue

What's the point of using one if you can't charge it at MagSafe levels? I understand your scenario but if you don't have a phone that actually uses MagSafe you need to buy one and there's much cheaper options out there..
MagSafe chargers work with any phone that supports Qi charging. They do not however charge at the same rate nor do they attach to the phone. I think for the person with the duo it’s for the convenience of charging their watch and phone together. Otherwise there is no reason to spend the extra money on a MagSafe charger.

well can't speak for OP but one reason would be future proofing. Chargers outlast several generations of iphones so a magsafe would be handy for any future iphone you get that would support it.
also you may have someone else in the house who uses the charger, for example even if i didn't have a 12 pro max my wife has a 12 pro so she can benefit from the faster charging and i can still charge the SE at standard non-magsafe speed.
lastly the price difference isn't so much IMO, if you get the magsafe puck for around 30 dollars on sale and own it for 5-6 years or more (chargers plugged into the wall with no cables to fray should essentially last forever) that 20 dollars more you spent compared to a cheaper qi charger is pretty paltry spread out over the usage of so many days and years (this is how i justified the magsafe duo lol)
You've chosen the wrong words. Magsafe is basically wireless charging with magnets for positioning. Depending on your charger and device it might be faster than standard Qi wireless charging, but it's still only marginally faster. Apple Magsafe wireless chargers are fully Qi compatible, meaning they'll work with any iPhone that supports wireless charging (like the SE2 for example).
