Experience Without An Optical Drive?

Seriously considering the 13 Air w/ 4 gig. Should I get a usb optical drive to go with it? How easy and fast is it to use the wireless optical option when loading dvd media on to the Macbook Air?

Curious to know if I can use this Macbook Air as a portable workhorse without having a portable optical drive to load stuff onto the Air.

Finally, I have a Sony portable USB DVD drive. Will this work with a Macbook Air? I don't want to buy a Superdrive if I don't have to.

I also considered getting an external DVD drive but never got around to it. Two years later, I still don't have one because I've done fine without it. I've upgraded OSes and even done a complete reinstall. The "air drive" system works fine, albeit a bit slower.
