Somewhere Back In The Long Ago
A friend has an old (digital tape) video camera with some footage he wants to view on a dvd on his TV.

I imported all the clips, chose MP4 as the output format in iMovie, saved the project and burned a DVD. It's really pixelated and pretty much unwatchable.

Can't seem to find the option in iMovie to change from DV to DV pro, which I think will improve things?

It's the new version, and Apple have changed the export menu so I can't find the right dialogue box....?

Multiple options and formats available. imo it should be labeled 'Advanced Export'

Just revised my first post.

There is yet another button 'Options' in that Save As window

THEN you can set formats, ratios, etc lol

At some point you may find that 16x9 video is coming out 4:3 in iDVD.

I had to set the ratio to 'Custom' at 853x480 to subsequently force iDVD to read it as 16x9 (even though I had the '16x9' setting originally when rendering)

In case it happens to you.

Still Cant Find

That Damn option to change from DV to DV pro.....Am now exporting in MP4 (Improved) HD...I think the limitations of the older DV tapes may be partly to blame here, My HD camera works fine.

Might tell him he needs a new camera:)

Why go via Quicktime/mp4 if he wants a dvd that he can watch, presumably via a dvd player, on his TV? Why not share to iDVD and make the dvd that way?

I figured he wanted to start with a specific format when using iDVD.
Sorry, I don't understand that. The whole point of iMovie/iDVD is to import video footage, edit it, and then transfer it to dvd without anything in between.
